The Turn of the Year: Reflections from Grady O'Rear

The Turn of the Year: Reflections from Grady O'RearThe old year's ebb gives rise to reflection while the arrival of the new year brings focus on new goals, a renewal of direction, and a sense of hope and purpose. Here at Green Advantage we too take stock, look forward, and give thanks.

Of note, we're experiencing logarithmic growth: three times as many people sat for the Green Advantage © Certifying exam in 2008 as in 2007. That growth is due in large measure to the success and expertise of our major training partners – RDI, delivering Commercial training and What’s Working, delivering Residential training. In addition, other training partners have been moving forward: The National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) developed a joint Commercial/Residential training for GA certification and is supplying the training curriculum to various community colleges and other institutions that the Center serves.

GreenLight spoke with Claudine Schneider, former Member of Congress and Green Advantage Advisory Board Member about what the Obama administration will mean for Green Advantage and the green building field in general. She noted that Obama's ability to realize these goals will depend a great deal on Congress; but given their almost-certain support for a greener environment and economy, Schneider predicts a “tsunami of activity” in green building and green collar jobs.
