Green Advantage Announces Change in Policy for Training
As of July 1, 2009, Green Advantage has decided that it will no longer authorize organizations offering training for the Green Advantage Certification. GA will instead allow training providers to develop and offer trainings how they choose, encouraging them to pursue the most effective methods of training they can without restriction, and will allow Green Advantage to focus our energy and attention on maintaining and improving the quality of our Certification Exams and the Certification itself.
The decision was made after considering the incredible rising demand for green building training and certification, and the larger picture of green job training and creation. These were the major factors considered in making the decision:
- ANSI (the American National Standards Institute) accreditation. One ANSI requirement is a clear separation between certifying bodies and training bodies. GA and its Certified Practitioners will benefit by adding ANSI’s “stamp of approval” to our organization and practices; and
- Resource allocation. Looking critically at our resources, we believe that this strategy will allow GA and training providers to best meet this demand.
For GA Certified Practitioners and anyone wanting to get certified, nothing has changed. But we anticipate a positive increase in the number of Green Advantage trainings offered nationwide. We believe this decision will be a good one, not only for expanding the Green Advantage Certification, but for expanding the use of green building practices and knowledge all across the country.
Although taking training prior to sitting for the exam is not required, Green Advantage highly recommends taking training first. We will continue to post upcoming trainings offered by organizations that choose to list their trainings on our Web site. You may have noticed that we’ve added a number of new training dates and providers to the list in the past few weeks.
We’re looking forward to the positive change this decision will make, and we hope you are too! If you have any questions, feel free to let us know at info@greenadvantage.org.
